  • Form: Ceremonial Axe/Celt

This and similar objects from late Mississippian sites in the Southeast are called "sociotechnic" axes or celts. They are broadly similar in form to functional axes or celts, but they were finely crafted for use as ceremonial objects. C.B. Moore reported an artifact similar to this one from the Pecan Point site.
