Illustrated by Williams (1980: Figure 2S), this unusual Bell Plain vessel is a compound stirrup-necked bottle with a height of 11 inches. The small jar at the apex has four symmetrically placed applique handles (Lumb and McNutt 1988:37-38) below the flared rim; this style of handle is non-functional, as the full length of the applique is affixed to the vessel wall. The Robert Johnson site (probably the site now recorded as 40TP26) was one of several that Dr. Hampson excavated in the vicinity of Richardson's Landing, Tennessee, which is located just across the Mississippi River from the Upper Nodena site. Hampson gives the location as 1 1/4 miles south of Richardson's Landing.
